The standard period of legal residence in the Netherlands required for an immigrant to become a Dutch citizen will not be lengthened from five years to seven years. Naturalization abroad for spouses and civil union partners of Dutch citizens will also not be abolished.<\/p>\n<p>The amendment to the bill introduced by the lower chamber,\u00a0introducing a possibility to opt for Dutch nationality for Dutch citizens abroad who lost their Dutch citizenship by the passage of time, has hereby also been defeated.
